Eviction Prevention Assistance

Porchlight collaborates with community organizations to reduce homelessness for our Sun Prairie neighbors. The Home Mission Fund aids community members who have experienced a sudden and temporary loss of income. The fund helps prevent eviction and utility disconnection.

  • If a household owes more than the amount the fund can assist with, there must be a plan in place with the landlord/utility provider as to where the rest of the funds will come from.
  • The Home Mission Fund verifies payment plans/arrangements with the third party before releasing funds.
  • Households requesting help with a utility bill must have a 5-day notice or utility bill and have a good payment history.
  • If a household did not pay their electric bill during the moratorium months (winter) and requests help with preventing disconnection in April, family members must make a minimum of three consecutive payments as part of a plan with the utility provider before funds are released.
  • The fund assists with rent or utility payments once every 12 months per participant. The organization gives preference to first-time fund users.
  • The average grant is up to $300.
  • The Home Mission Fund does NOT assist with the following: motel/hotel, camping fees, pet related expenses, cable bill, phone bill, credit/loan payments, food, diapers, furniture, clothing, prescriptions, medical bills, car or other insurance, etc.
