Sunshine Place helps our neighbors walking through hardships. We assist those in Sun Prairie and northeastern Dane County experiencing a loss of income, eviction, legal issues, and language barriers.

Help Finding and Securing Stable Housing

The Housing Navigation Program at Sunshine Place provides assistance to help those in the community to find, secure, and/or maintain stable housing in Sun Prairie and Marshall. Our Housing Navigation Specialist can also assist with the subsidized housing process.

Eviction Prevention & Crisis Assistance

Sunshine Place aims to prevent homelessness for our neighbors facing hardship. The Rays of Hope Emergency Assistance Program assists community members who have experienced a sudden and temporary loss of income. The fund helps prevent eviction and utility disconnection.

Guidelines and requirements to qualify for assistance: 

  • Must live in Sun Prairie or Marshall.  
  • Clients must have ongoing income to make future rent and/or utility payments.  
  • Rental support funds cannot assist future rent, rent must be late   
  • For rent assistance, household must have a balance of $300 or less to qualify.  
  • The $300 can be up to $500, if it is for move in costs.   
  • For utility assistance, household must have a balance of $250 or less to qualify.  
  • Can only receive assistance once every 18 months in each category, up to $300 for rent or $500 for security deposit, and $250 for utilities. 
  • There is a lifetime cap of $1,200 in rent and utility assistance per household.
  • This program does not assist with gas cards or hotel/motel stays.  

Required documentation for rent:  

  • Rent receipt or ledger (shows $300 for rent or $500 for move in costs or less is owed)  
  • Proof of household income (such as: latest paystub, award letter)   
  • ID

Free Legal Consults

Sunshine Legal Clinic provides free legal consultations for our neighbors navigating legal issues. Our experts offer consults on family law, tenant rights, immigration and more. The Sunshine Legal Clinic is a virtual clinic only available to individuals who reside in Dane County.  Check out More Information for details.

Connect to the Right Resources

The Sunshine Place Resource Center connects neighbors with resources to help with employment, housing, and other services.   Additional food is often also available in the lobby for those in need to take outside of normal food pantry visits. Limits may apply based on resource availability.

The Dane County Department of Human Services offers Joining Forces for Families (JFF) to connect Sun Prairie neighbors with needed resources. The community-based, voluntary program partners with local organizations to assist families through creative problem solving, advocacy, and resource connection.

Services for the Latino Community

Centro Hispano of Dane County serves an average of 2,500 + families and 6,000 + individuals through its bilingual programs and services each year. ​The organization offers programs to help youth, strengthen families, and engage the community. Centro Hispano connects Spanish-speaking members of the community with employment and housing help, food, clothes, and school support for parents.

Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) offers a Community-based Public Health Nurse (CBPHN) to connect Sun Prairie neighbors with referrals and information for PHMDC services and programs. Through partnership and collaboration with community members, businesses, and local groups/organizations, the CBPHN assists to provide education, assessment, facilitation, and action in order to enhance, protect, and promote the health and wellbeing of all people in our community.

Tenant Resource Center (TRC) is a nonprofit, membership organization with a mission of advocating for housing justice and thriving communities. TRC offers a comprehensive range of services, encompassing housing counseling, eviction prevention, housing mediation, outreach, education, and more. TRC offers regular drop in office hours at Sunshine Place to help tenants, landlords, and service providers with questions and concerns about rental rights and responsibilities.

Free Healthcare for Women

First Care Clinic provides healthcare services for women. The organization offers free pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, testing and treatment, and occasional PAP clinics in a mobile clinic. The mobile clinic moves into Sun Prairie every Thursday. Appointments are required.

Effective May 11th, First Care Clinic will be at Sunshine Place every other Thursday.  Please see the Sunshine Place calendar for specific dates.
