My Child Needs a Bed:
This is a FREE bed program for youth in the Sun Prairie and Marshall areas.
No one should have to sleep on the floor. Our Beds for Kids program (formerly The Bed Lady), was created to provide school-aged youth with a comfortable bed to sleep on. This program delivers new, twin-sized beds to Sun Prairie and Marshall children in need. The referral process to receive a bed is simple. Once you have a referral, bed/bedding deliveries are made directly to a child’s home. Please reach out to bedsforkids@sunshineplace.org with questions about this program, besides referrals.
To request a bed, a direct referral is required, and these can be made in a few different ways:
- Referrals for eligible clients can be made by our Sunshine Place referrals staff, who you can contact about a Beds for Kids referral at referrals@sunshineplace.com.
- Referrals can be made by a school social worker or Community Schools Site Coordinator.
- Referrals can be made by the Community Social Worker at our onsite partner Joining Forces for Families (608-825-3225).
I Want to Donate Items to Beds for Kids:
Beds for Kids accepts CLEAN GENTLY USED and NEW twin size bedding. We can only accept BRAND NEW pillows still in their original packaging.
To donate items to Beds for Kids
- Drop them off at Sunshine Place, at 18 Rickel Road, Sun Prairie
- Order from our Amazon Wish List or our Walmart Wish List to have them delivered directly to us.
Once we receive your donation, we sort and store them for our next needed deliveries. We try to make it special for youth receiving beds and bedding by providing all of the necessary bedding and pillows in the color/character theme they like. At times our inventory runs low, and we may have to purchase items to meet community need. Your donations allow us to fulfill our deliveries and use funds in other areas of need.
Every year, Beds for Kids purchases over 100 brand-new twin-size beds and mattresses. This is our largest expense as we ensure to buy quality beds from a local furniture store. All financial donations are used to purchase the beds, bedding and pillows needed to support our program.
